Nigerian government needs to invest more on filmmaking --Doyin Aggrey

Resourceful Nollywood actress and producer, Doyin Aggrey has called on the Nigeria government to invest more in filmmaking, as the sector is obviously capable of turning the country's economy around.

Nigeria is one of the countries in the world currently going through economic recession, and this has resulted in a series of heated debates and protests from members of the public. But Doyin Aggrey believes that if the government at all levels can intensify their support to the entertainment industry, more fortune would smile on Nigeria.

She noted that though the entertainment sector has always exhibited the capacity of being Nigeria's biggest export, recent feats recorded by Nollywood movies on international platforms like Netflix is enough evidence.

"The international community has identified Nollywood as a viable source of revenue, and they're investing in it massively now. With the investment of platforms like Netflix and Prime Video, the standard of our filmmaking has tremendously improved, and it is a win-win situation for all parties. If the government can also take advantage of this, I'm sure Nigeria's economy will bounce back because entertainment is our best export at the moment," Aggrey stated.

She however advised aspiring actors to embrace a career in acting, only if they genuinely have the passion to do so. "Like I always tell people, acting is not a career you will choose simply because you see how rich and famous the practitioners are and you want to emulate their lifestyles. It doesn’t work like that, and trust me; it’s those who come into the industry with such motives that usually lament.

"If you don’t have passion for acting, surviving or enduring the challenges of the industry before becoming a celebrity would be impossible," Aggrey warned.

Meanwhile, the Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State born filmmaker and producer of 'Italian Gold' is currently warming up to hit location for the shoot of another movie from her stables.

Breaking News: After this Month, God will Reshuffle Our Nation -Prophet I.O Samuel

It is no longer news that, the country is presently going through hard time as the economy and the cost of living continue to be on the increase every day. The good news here is that, the revered man of God who has been performing signs wonder in the vineyard for many years, Prophet I.O Samuel has reassured everyone to calm down as God has revealed to him that, after this month, HE will reshuffle the nation.

He said this while addressing his congregation penultimate Sunday.

In his words, "Today, someone told me that, many people will not come to church suggesting we should ask people to stay at home but i said, when i get there, the people that are there are the one that God has blessed. I asked why should we tell people to stay at home, they said, there is no fuel but i responded that, there is no fuel but there is fire on the alter"

He said further, "Some of our brothers are on the queue because they want to be in church but they couldn't. You voted Labour Party in Nigeria, but Labour Party won in UK is that not a miracle? We are now in your leading party where everyone is smiling and crying. Every weekend, they will hoard fuel so that you people will not go and serve God"

While revealing what God said, he said "After this month, God will reshuffle our nation. This prophecy is the most parable prophecy i will say in my lifetime. After this month, Nigeria will be reshuffled. As we are watching other nation and scared of their revolution. Our own will be too row and automatic. People are begging the system and the system did not listen, very soon the system will beg the masses and the masses too will not listen. The masses will bring the system on their kneel thou says the lord of host."

buttressing on the prophecy, he said "I have never mistake prophecy. This is not EndSars protest, the EndSars was a child's play. This is 'Supernatural Sars'. This prophecy will be neglected because they will think it is one of the random pastor talking for popularity."

"A Sleeping giant angel just open his eyes. You need to be careful, God is not happy with us in this country and HE will show us that he is frowning. The innocent are dying and God is not happy about it. We have been begging our leaders to form two party system because that is what will save Nigeria. If Nigeria failed to form two party system, even after i leave this world, the country will continue rotating in one place and other neighboring countries will be growing and our giant nation will remain stagnant." He also said

While emphasizing on the need for both the government and the masses should take the prophecy serious, he made reference to the prophecy God revealed to him about England, he said "There was a prophecy i gave about England. It was a big proverb and nobody understood it. I said, i saw sabotage in the leadership and it will be too late before they know. That was the prophecy of the new year. Nobody understood my prophecy and it has come to past. I saw a Prime Minister saying, I take responsibility for my failure. And indeed, it has come to past."

He also share the prophecy he had about Peter Obi, he said "I told him, Peter Obi, don't run because if you do, crowd will follow you because if you run, it will be too late because he has the flag but the flag was not complete with the last green. It was only the Green and white but without the last green.     *After this Month, God will Reshuffle Our Nation -Prophet I.O Samuel*

Re: Dapo Abiodun and Burden of Inherited Infrastructure Deficit

I was shocked to read one article written by one, Seye Abodunrin, praising Ogun state Governor, Prince DAPO Abiodun titled: DAPO Abiodun and Burden of Inherited Infrastructure Deficit.

I am sorry for this writer doing a hatchet job in the said article. It is even more shameful that Mr. Abodunrin is writing from Ijoko, one of the most neglected areas with an abandoned historical link network of roads initiated by the former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, which Dapo failed to continue.

The Governor should note that Amosun never planned to leave such a legacy project like others uncompleted, which would be mentioned thereafter, but unfortunately, time was not on his side.

Amosun can be credited to have begun the modernization of Ogun State. The solid template he laid during his administration has been hailed by the people, and even beyond the shores of the state as enduring and result-oriented.

A man of great vision; versatility and a manager of resources, history will judge his administration.

Indeed, it is even more curious to see the writer alleging one-sided development in the Gateway state at that time.

I dare say that all the rubbish that Abodunrin said about the one-sided development of Amosun showed his gross error judgment and his co-travelers, about Amosun's plan for the State capital and across the state.

Amosun was a man in a hurry. His commitment and daily routines were driven by passion, great energy, and competitiveness to make the state rank among the best of its peers.

Unfortunately, he couldn't play his politics right, otherwise, his failed successor would have continued his good programmes for the fast growth and rapid development of Ogun State that the people yearned for as they will become spectacles to behold.

But come to think of it, who even says Amosun's programmes are not spread across the vast length and breadth of Ogun State? What will you say of the development and two bridges he built in Ijebu-Ode to reduce the perennial risk of lives on the Ijebu-Ode Expressway and other development scattered in Shagamu, Ijebu-Igbo, Ilaro, and that fantastic network of link road between Sango and Berger, near Lagos?

That long stretch of road is laid with many communities with huge populations; Ijoko, Agbado, Lambe, Akute, Adiyan, and many neighbouring communities.

It is also worthy of note that the abundant socio-economic benefits of the road to the people of the state and others, cannot be overemphasized because of its closeness to Lagos, Nigeria's commercial hub.

A lot of development would have sprouted from this axis, which would further boost the revenue of the State.

I remember opposition groups swallowed their pride and even openly commended the giant strides of the former Governor for his uncommon commitment to drive the state beyond the way he met it. The PDP governorship candidate, Mr. Segun Sowunmi, always remembers this golden era, as Amosun's achievements might have encouraged him to contest for the exalted seat in the 2023 general elections.

Let Abodunrin be told that government is a continuum.

If a successor in a neighbouring state, such as Lagos, could continue the projects of their predecessors with such attendant advantages and massive development seen now and over the years,  is worth emulating, why not replicate it in Ogun state?

This is why even the most critical observers continue to praise ex-Governor of the state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, now, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for the giant strides the state witnessed during his eight years administration, even years after he left. Fashola, never abandoned the dream, ditto others.

 Tinubu has a 25-year

master plan for Lagos.

Today, "Eko" has become the envy of not only other states in the Federation, but also countries from Africa, America, Asia, and Europe, which wanted to adopt such a development to enhance their development. Another typical example was Senator Adam Oshiomhole, who was then Edo's Governor and came to understudy Fashola to replicate what he had seen in Lagos.

Let us forget the strategic place of Lagos. In my own belief, even with such advantages without a proper plan laid and commitment by its drivers, the development seen in the State today would not have been possible and a mirage.

I was able to see the master plan of Amosun for the state from the Kara market to Ijebu axis and Ilaro axis including Ota, nothing can best be compared to see fast development of his fatherland.

Sadly, the indigenes of the State would regret for not voting Akinlade, his chosen successor.

This is especially so, as the state internal roads network is in complete shambles, lacking maintenance and reconstruction, just as new ones beckon for succor, which they could not get under the current dispensation.

Although Governor Dapo Abiodun. would lay claim to have constructed schools, bridges, or some roads across the state, the result of the last heavy rainfall in the state, with its attendant flooding and loss of lives, left much to be desired.

But former Governor, Amosun, has Dubai in mind to replicate in the state. He expressed dismay at the fast development of Dubai within 20 years; and wondered why such a spectacle cannot be repeated in Nigeria.

Let me take this opportunity to ask Dapo why he decided to abandon the Abeokuta Mall, which was about 90 percent completed at the time Amosun left.

All the necessary equipment needed are available to complete this gigantic project. It is rusting away. God knows when the cement and other iron used would start to wear away.

Another disappointing and poor judgment of Dapo is for him to abandon such a state-of-the-art educational infrastructure built by the former Governor, spread in all the nooks and crannies of Ogun State.

They were Model Colleges with all the facilities. This infrastructure exists in Ikenne, Wasimi, Odeda, Ilaro, etc, yet Dapo abandoned them and is in deplorable condition.

Reptiles, weeds, and other dangerous animals now daily torment the people who dare to go there. He has converted one of these buildings into a Tech hub.

Each building costs about N2 billion. Instead,  he went to start a Cargo airport, despite the closeness of an airport at Ikeja (Lagos) and Ibadan, not to even talk of the proposed Lekki airport. All these would make the cargo airport useless and unattractive to imaginary users. The taxpayers' money, regrettably, is wasted.

It is quite a shame to see the deplorable state of Abeokuta Express Road. And a disgrace to all the State stakeholders. All three senators should be blamed and ashamed of themselves; ditto the Federal Lawmakers and state House of  Assembly members.

I am not leaving out our traditional rulers, including all the companies within this corridor of this blame.

Truly, It is a federal road; but my problem with the  Ogun State Governor is why he decided to do the road when he knew the state wouldn't act quickly. They would have left the road to be done by the FG, to witness the magic hand of the no-nonsense Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works.

One can imagine the loss of trillions of naira by companies, individuals, schools, and the various arms of government here. Can you imagine how many goods have been destroyed, not to mention trucks and other heavy vehicles that fell splitting their goods worth millions of naira on the bad roads? And with those unable to reach their destination, it is always a harrowing experience. How many lives have also been lost, not to mention the man-hours lost and other related issues that impair business growth? These are other critical issues to mention.

One thing I noticed Ogun State  Governor for, is his speedy action to adopt federal policy. One such is CNG  vehicles introduced by the Tinubu government, but where are the roads on which to drive the vehicles?

Another sad moment is the neglect of the rehabilitation of Federal roads, especially the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway by President Tinubu. He has quickly forgotten his historic comment at Abeokuta; EMILOKAN. This in fact should have spurred him to do the road.

To me, Ogun State is currently not in safe hands. It is, indeed, crawling. However, all hope is not lost. All hands must be on the deck to salvage it from total collapse.

Gen. Buratai Reveals Why Tinubu is Right on ECOWAS Standby Force

Retired Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Ambassador to the Republic of Benin x-rays ECOWAS’ challenges and President Bola Tinubu’s proposal of an ECOWAS Standby Force to enhance security of the regional bloc. He spoke exclusively to LOUIS ACHI on the larger emerging geopolitical scenario.

President Bola Tinubu, at the 65th Ordinary Session of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government on Sunday, in Abuja, proposed an ECOWAS Standby Force, ESF, for the enhanced security of the regional block.

Yes, that’s correct.

What’s your reading of this move? Is there significant conceptual or doctrinal difference between the proposed standby force and the ECOMOG force in terms of command, control and coordination?

The proposal put forth by President Tinubu, in his capacity as ECOWAS Chair, to establish the ECOWAS Standby Force is truly commendable, and it has my full support. I have been a vocal advocate for the creation of this ECOWAS Standby Force ever since taking on the role of Army Chief back in 2015. The urgent need for such a force is underscored by the myriad security challenges facing the West African sub-region, which require a coordinated and rapid response mechanism to safeguard peace and stability in the area.

The establishment of the proposed ECOWAS Standby Force serves as a significant development in the regional security architecture of West Africa, distinguishing itself from the previous ECOMOG intervention force in terms of command, control, and coordination. Unlike ECOMOG, the ECOWAS Standby Force is designed to operate under a unified command structure, ensuring a more streamlined decision-making process and effective coordination of military operations.

This structure enhances the force’s ability to respond swiftly and decisively to regional security challenges, promoting greater coherence and efficiency in its peacekeeping and crisis management efforts across member states. By prioritizing joint planning, training, and exercises, the ECOWAS Standby Force aims to uphold professionalism and interoperability among its participating contingents, bolstering the force’s overall readiness and effectiveness in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

The ECOMOG (Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group) Force, established in West Africa in 1990, despite its huge successes, it encountered numerous challenges that impeded its ability to be sustained. One of the key reasons for its setback was the limited resources and logistical support provided to the force.

Inadequate funding and equipment hindered the progress of ECOMOG in carrying out its peacekeeping and crisis management missions. Additionally, the conflicting mandate and weak command structure among the member states of the force led to coordination issues and internal conflicts, undermining its operational efficiency.

Furthermore, external factors such as political interference and lack of international support also affected ECOMOG to achieve its long-term objectives in the region. These collective challenges ultimately prevented the ECOMOG Force from realizing its full potential and sustaining its operations in West Africa. In my opinion, ECOMOG could not have been the foundation on which the ECOWAS Standby Force could have found a formidable root.

As it is now, the ECOWAS Brigade (ECOBRIG) had been formed. What is required now is getting the boots on the ground. When General Ogomudia was the CDS, Nigeria pledged a formidable force. I hope this Force can be mobilised immediately to kick start the ECOWAS Standby Force. The pledged force included infantry and armour units, artillery regiment, signals and a host of others.

Is President Tinubu edging ECOWAS away from its core economic bloc status and trying to inspire a West African “NATO” – which would be an outright military alliance?

ECOWAS, the Economic Community of West African States, stands as a dedicated economic sub-regional group, established with the noble mission of advocating for the economic and commercial interests of the various West African nations. Among its many initiatives, ECOWAS has established the ECOWAS Standby Force, designed not to transform ECOWAS into a militaristic force akin to NATO, but rather to complement the organization’s primary economic objectives in the region.

It is essential to underscore that security plays a pivotal role in fostering economic development; without a secure environment, the West African sub-region would struggle to realize its full economic potential. Presently, the sub-region grapples with a myriad of challenges posed by numerous non-state actors, including terrorist groups, bandits, and criminal gangs, which pose a direct threat to the state’s ability to maintain the monopoly on violence.

In response to these security threats, the creation of the ECOWAS Standby Force represents a strategic move towards leveraging economies of scale to assist member states in tackling security issues effectively. The current security situation in Burkina Faso highlights the daunting challenges the country is grappling with, including a severe shortage of manpower and military equipment.

These deficiencies underscore the immense difficulties faced by the nation in safeguarding its citizens and maintaining peace and stability. These pressing issues are precisely the obstacles that the ECOWAS Standby Force aims to address and assist member states in overcoming, by providing much-needed support and resources to bolster their security capabilities and effectively respond to emerging threats.

What will be the geo-political implication of this course for the continent, given Russia’s current incursion into West Africa through the breakaway ECOWAS members states of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger – with the West carefully watching and possibly counter-plotting?

The situation is a very dicey one because Russia itself is in West Africa to promote its strategic and economic interest. West African countries and governments must introspect their romance with all these international powers – be it China, Russia or the West. I can tell you that NATO and especially America sees the infiltration of Russia into West Africa as a major threat to its interest especially when these juntas are closing down American and French bases to make for Russia to come in and take over.

As far back as 2023, the United States outlined in its US Security Strategy the significant threat posed by Russia and China to its strategic interests in West Africa. The emergence of these two global powers as key players in the region has raised concerns regarding their potential to challenge US influence and destabilize the security environment.

Russia’s assertive foreign policy and military presence, along with China’s growing economic investments and infrastructure projects, have highlighted the need for the US to closely monitor and address the evolving dynamics in West Africa. The situation is very complex and it is not as simple as these juntas think.

There is a strong possibility that we might witness counter coups in Burkina Faso and Mali or even Niger because of the refusal or delay of these juntas to organize elections and hand over to democratically elected leaders. I agree that the military leaders seemed to enjoy the goodwill of the people but you must know that there will always be few members of their inner circle who will be tempted to overthrow them and rule especially when some of the juntas are saying they will not conduct election till after five years.

The looming threat of coups and counter coups in the region is of grave concern, but what is even more worrying is the possibility of the sub region and the Sahel becoming a battleground for proxy wars waged by international powers, reminiscent of the ongoing conflict in Sudan that is currently unfolding before our eyes.

Recognizing that the success of his proposal requires not only strong political will but also substantial financial resources, Tinubu called out ECOWAS member states on their inconsistent payment of financial commitments to the regional body and also urged them upscale their own respective defense budgets. Do you agree with this seemingly hardline position

I am in complete agreement with President Tinubu’s stance that ECOWAS member states must demonstrate consistency in meeting their financial obligations to the regional body and, ideally, enhance their defense budgets. Reflecting on the past, during the ECOMOG era, Nigeria bore the significant burden of investing approximately $8 billion to restore stability in Liberia and Sierra Leone, while other member nations failed to contribute financially. Such lack of commitment is concerning, and it is imperative that as a regional bloc, we take ownership and address our challenges head-on to garner respect and credibility on the global stage.

On September 16 2023, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger signed a new mutual defence pact named the Alliance of Sahel States. This essentially signals significant discontent with alleged “ineffectiveness” of ECOWAS and their disillusionment with the West – and Russia is capitalising on this trend. How does this rebellion impact President Tinubu chairmanship of ECOWAS and how should he proceed with engaging this new competitor-bloc to ECOWAS?

The decision made by these three African countries to enter into a new mutual defense pact was primarily influenced by the absence of a robust entity like the ECOWAS Standby Force and the threat of force by ECOWAS against Niger Republic. Given that all three countries are governed by military juntas, they felt the need to band together to defend themselves.

With a collective population of 76.1 million and a combined GDP of $55 billion, their disassociation from ECOWAS represents a significant setback for the organization, particularly for President Tinubu, who is actively working as the Chairman to reintegrate them back into the ECOWAS framework.

I understand that the required procedure for member states who wish to exit ECOWAS involves providing one year’s notice to the organization. These three countries fulfilled this requirement last January, giving us until January 2025 to potentially sway them to reconsider their decision.

I believe that in the long run, these countries will engage in negotiations with ECOWAS to secure more favorable terms, leading them to ultimately remain within the organization. It would prove challenging for them to prosper and thrive independently without the benefits and support that ECOWAS provides.

Given the political and economic fragility in some member states, especially those that witnessed unconstitutional changes of government, added to terrorist activities and violent extremism threatening to spread from the Sahel region towards the coastal states, what’s the way forward for ECOWAS?

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) must awaken from its slumber to ensure that true representative democracy flourishes within the sub-region. It is imperative for ECOWAS to take a firm stance on crucial issues such as implementing term limits for elected leaders, promoting good governance characterized by accountability and efficiency, creating economic opportunities for the populace, upholding the rule of law, and fostering inclusivity, among other crucial pillars of democracy.

The recent events, that are the removal of term limits in Ivory Coast, Togo, and, until the recent coup led by Mamadi Doumbaya, Guinea, serve as stark reminders of the fragility of weak democracies that lack the genuine support of their people. The scenes of unrest and public discontent in these nations point to the urgent need for ECOWAS to step up its efforts in safeguarding democracy and ensuring that leaders are accountable to their citizens.

The widespread public demonstrations in Niger in support of General Tchiani following the overthrow of President Bazzoum, as well as the jubilation on the streets of Conakry, Guinea, after Colonel Doumbaye removed President Conde from power, underscore the deep-seated dissatisfaction and lack of popular support for those in leadership positions.

It is high time for ECOWAS to prioritize the consolidation of democratic norms and practices across the region to avert further political instability and ensure the legitimate representation of the people’s will. No soldier in his right mind would dare to challenge the stability of a government that is deeply cherished and widely supported by its people.

It is, therefore, imperative for ECOWAS to prioritize the establishment of effective democratic systems across the sub-region. Additionally, ECOWAS must play a pivotal role in fostering economic integration within the sub-region, facilitating seamless movements of people and goods. The delayed implementation of the proposed ECO currency within the ECOWAS sub-region raises concerns and underscores the need for swift action.

Apostle Suleman's Prophecies: *Seven Things That God Says Will Happen in July 2024*

“The written word of God is indestructible. The spoken word of God is the flurry of attacks that can send the enemy running away. Faith grounded in the word is a fortress. When there is lack, God declares provisions from heaven. And when there is sickness, He declares healing.” These are words of affirmation from Servant of God and General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries (OFM) worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, as he made positive prophetic declarations for July, 2024.

Apostle Suleman declared during his Tuesday prayers: “Here are seven things that God Almighty revealed to me will happen in your life this month of July. I want your faith to be open and be alive to be able to take these prophetic declarations because they will all happen in your life.

God says in your life this month; God will not be mocked (Galatians 6:7). He said tell them that in their life this month, I will not be mocked. Amen. The second declaration is; this month, you shall find the grace to help (Hebrew 4:16). This month, you shall enjoy present helpers. That is Declaration number three (Psalm 46:1). That means you will not just have helpers that will be dormant; you will have helpers that will be active.

Psalm 102:13; God said tell them that this month, their set time has come. Your set time for favour, for blessing has come. Then He said, tell them that this month, ungodly associations against you shall scatter (Isaiah 8:9-10). And God said to tell you that, this month, God will give you people that will minister favour to your life (Luke 8:2). Finally, in Isaiah 26:3, God says this month, you will enjoy perfect peace. In the name of Jesus, it’s a blessed month for you. Amen.

According to the ‘Restoration Apostle’, prophecies are God’s promised verdicts. ‘A prophecy means God has promised to do a thing, so nothing can reverse it. When it is God who said it, we must understand that it is what He can and will do. God speaks in His capacity and ability to deliver.” The servant of God also suggests the need for believers to understand that it takes faith to see prophecies fulfilled.
