Alhaji Abdul-Moshood Babatunde, the head of Oni- Orisan family in Lagos Island, has cleared the air on the controversy trailing the sale of the family’s landed property to Harmony Gardens, a top real estate firm owned by socialite, Saheed Mosadoluwa.

Alhaji Babatunde, who has been moving in and out of the police station owing to the petition written by some aggrieved members of the family alleged to have stormed Harmony Gardens Lagos headquarters and destroyed properties worth ‘billions of naira’, said in a Harley with journalists in Lagos on Wednesday that the deal is ‘clean, valid and cannot be reversed’.

Alhaji Moshood particularly fingered a half-sister of his, one Mrs Modupe Damasio, of being the mastermind of the petition that landed him in trouble with the police from Alagbon and Adeniji Adele where he was reportedly tormented with no regard to his old age and failing health.

“I was surprised that at my age and my level of mobility, police from Alagbon and Adeniji- Adele were tossing me around,” stressed the man in his mid 80s.

He explained his role in the deal;

“It’s true I sold a part of the landed properties to Harmony Gardens on behalf of my family in Oju-Ota, Oko-Orisan Village, Epe, Lagos, with the knowledge and consent of my siblings. My family has about 5400 acres of land in Epe, which I think is more than enough for the 77 grandchildren to share. I have collected N35m advance hoping to be paid the balance of N20m which I have promised to share with other when Harmony Gardens pays. But my sister would not accept this. Hence the resort to police case.”

Alhaji Moshood disclosed that, though the Lagos State government has acquired 2000 acres from the land for the airport project, the family still has 3400 acres left, which he insists is enough for everyone to share. 

On the invasion of Harmony Gardens’ properties, Alhaji Moshood says the Oni-Orisan family has petitioned the Lagos State commissioner of police to investigate and prevent further destruction. He alleged also that the AIG of Zone 2, Olaoye Durosinmi, in the heat of the crisis, deployed armed officers on July 22, 2024, to provide security for the aggrieved family members on July 22, 2024, promising to provide video recordings and statements from suspects, showing the involvement of the culprits, allegedly supported by AIG Durosinmi. Alhaji Moshood, therefore, called on the Inspector General of Police to intervene and prevent “unlawful and malicious arraignment and prosecution.”

A notorious land grabber, one Bashiru Fakorede, was alleged to have connived with Alhaji Moshood’s half sister to unleash mayhem over the land saga culminating in the destruction of valuable properties and arrest of some staff of Harmony Gardens.

A human rights advocacy group has vowed to intervene and ensure that justice is achieved.

While promising to ensure peaceful settlement of the crisis, Alhaji Moshood urged his siblings who appointed him as the head (Olori-ebi) of Oni-Orisan family to allow peace to reign so that buyers can be sourced for the remaining vast expanse of the land and everyone would be taken care of.

Aftermath of the Benin Airport attack on the Convoy of Senator Monday Okpebholo on July 18, an inspector attached to the Senator lost his life and other Apc party faithful’s are battling for survival in some undisclosed hospital. 

People are surprised that Obaseki led Government wants to change the narrative by accusing some law abiding citizens of being behind the mayhem. One of the top comedian in Edo state Daniel Eromosele a.k.a Pikolo was accused by the State Government as one of the people involved in the violence. 

Pikolo is not known to be a political thug, but rather a social media influencer who has a lot of followers in the state.

In a recent interview with the press pikolo said “I'm compelled to address a baseless and ridiculous accusation circulating on social media, claiming that I, alongside others, have been petitioned by the Edo State Government for allegedly attacking our own gubernatorial candidate's convoy. Despite not receiving any official invitation from the authorities, I'm responding to protect my hard-earned reputation as a man of integrity.

For the record, I was not present at the airport on the day of the alleged incident. I was nowhere near the airport environment and was not seen around there. I'm a comedian, content creator, and politician who has never engaged in thuggery or any form of violence.

My recent videos have focused on promoting our candidate and highlighting the failures of the PDP and its leadership in the state. If my content has caused discomfort, I challenge those affected to counter my claims with facts and evidence, rather than resorting to spreading falsehoods.

It's laughable that the government would stoop so low as to make unfounded allegations. 

If my name can be included in such a petition, despite my clear absence from the scene, it's clear that the document holds no merit.

I have contacted My Lawyers and they will do the needful in this matter , as the antics of the Solicitor General of Edo State,Prof Faith Osadolor, a supposed Professor of Law penning false allegations against my person and spreading it on the internet smacks of false information, false allegation, cyber bullying and cyber stalking.

Edo State Government should be reminded that the Law is for both the Governed and the Government.I demand an immediate retraction and apologies from the Edo State Government,else they will hear from my lawyers in the coming days .It was Martin Luther King that said *Injustice any where is a threat to justice everywhere*

In the petition signed by the State Solicitor General, Prof. Faith Osadolor on behalf of the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the State Government said Shaibu, contrary to the rule of law, recruited a throng of heavily armed thugs, including Tony Adun (Aka Tony Kabaka), Daniel Eromosele (Aka Pikolo), Efe Stewart, Joseph Okonigene, Noah Amiolemen Idemudia, among others, resorting to self-help, leading to the wanton destruction within the Benin metropolis and death of a Police officer.

General Buratai Applauds Supreme Court's Ruling On LG Autonomy, Says its Transformational and A Radical Change

 

....Commends the Federal Government's bold initiative.

The former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.) has hailed the judgement delivered by the Supreme Court granting financial autonomy to  local governments.

In his official statement, Buratai, who also served as Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, appraised the verdict labelling it transformational and a radical change that will redirect the  fortunes of the local governments in the country. He also commended the federal government for the bold initiative at the  Supreme Court and applauded the judges too for upholding justice during delivery.

He said, “this is transformational and radical change that will redirect the fortunes of the local governments in the country. I commend the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for instituting the case in the SC and also commend the SC for this landmark judgement”. Buratai further said that "the Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda is truly manifesting positively for the good of democracy and for the common man. 

Furthermore, he highlighted some of the  cardinal points of the judgement of the Supreme Court Judges which are allocations are to be paid directly to Local Government Councils immediately,  appointment of Caretaker committees is illegal and unconstitutional, and that no governor has any powers to appoint any CTC amongst others. 

According to him, “the Supreme Court’s ruling is a significant victory for local government autonomy. It has set a precedent for future cases involving local government autonomy and financial independence. Also, the ruling will have far-reaching implications for the country’s political landscape, as local governments gain greater control over their finances and Local Government Councils will now be able to deliver services more effectively to their communities, without interference from state governors. Aside from that, it will have a positive impact on grassroots development, including grassroots security.  

It would be recalled that the Supreme Court declared on Thursday that it is unconstitutional for state governors to hold funds allocated for local government administrations.

The seven-man panel, in the judgement delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, declared that the 774 local government councils in the country should manage their funds themselves.

The apex court held that the power of the government is portioned into three arms of government, the federal, the state and the local government.

The court further declared that a state government has no power to elect a caretaker committee and a local government council is only recognisable with a democratically elected government.
