BUA RESPONDS TO DANGOTE, REVEALS HOW THE COMPANY SURVIVED DANGOTE’S TRAPS, SELFISH PLOTS, USE OF UNSCRUPULOUS GOVT OFFICIALS TO FOIST MONOPOLY SINCE 1991 TO DATE

The attempt to paint itself as the offended by Dangote in a recent 7-page advertorial has been exposed by BUA Group in a press statement chronicling how since 1991, Dangote has done everything possible to ensure that BUA does not compete with it in any of the areas where they both undertake business.
BUA in its response revealed how it started out as a commodity trading company and in 1991, Dangote approached it to buy products only to issue a bounced cheque which was rejected by Societe Generale Bank. Despite this, Dangote went to court to to secure an exparte order to garnish BUA account and ensured that BUA’s business was frustrated since they were the only ones that had sugar at that time. It was BUA’s first encounter with Dangote’s traps.
The court papers chronicling the case are attached. The company survived the baptism of fire.
As if this was not enough, when BUA, years later, attempted to expand by opening a sugar refinery in Lagos, leasing 4.5 hectares belonging to Dangote’s uncle Usman Dantata, the billionaire waited until the lease was signed, and equipment moved to site before approaching the then President Obasanjo who directed NPA to revoke the ownership of the land, and gave the same land to Dangote that same day. Recall that the land initially belonged to his uncle, Usman Dantata who after the incident retired to KANO and died in agony of what happened.
Dangote used his contacts in government to frustrate a competitor. It took a whole year to eventually secure land as the Chairman’s late father had to come to his rescue by closing one of his thriving businesses in Lagos and gift the land to BUA Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu. This is the story behind the Lagos sugar refinery and Dangote’s various efforts to ensure the dream never materialised.
BUA also revealed how it ventured into cement industry in 2007 after the late President Yard Adua in a bid to break the monopoly in the sector granted licences to six other companies. BUA’s innovative efforts in using a floating terminal as its cement factory met with resistance. It was not allowed to operate in Lagos and when it moved to Port Harcourt to berth in a terminal owned by the company those who felt threatened ensured that it would not operate until the late President Yar Adua had to wade in and asked the Minister of Transport and NPA to allow the company breathe.

It took the intervention of the then Chief Economic Adviser, Tanimu Yakubu who called the Immigration CG to stop the illegal deportation while the President moved in by sacking the compromised DCG.

BUA also chronicled how Dangote did all he could to ensure that the company’s cement plant in Edo did not take off but for the intervention of President Buhari who had to call Governor Obaseki to ensure that no staff lost their jobs and the plant must not be shut down. Leaked mails indicating how Dangote staff sponsored thugs against BUA factory are also available in public media sphere.

Again when BUA attempted to open its Port Harcourt sugar refinery which is today, West Africa’s largest, and the only one outside of Lagos, Dangote did everything to stop the project. It took the intervention of the Presidency for BUA to have its way. Obviously, Dangote has always been scared stiff of competition and Dangote Group’s relationship with BUA in the last 32 years revealed much of this.
In its response to Dangote’s sponsored advert, BUA claimed it has survived not on patronage but because it is committed to innovation, integrity and inclusiveness and everyone seems to agree with this. ‘Our history is not one of being handed anything on a silver platter’. The statement further revealed how in the years between 1991 and now the ‘company has been cast as the antagonists in a narrative woven with malice’.
BUA urged the Dangote group to play the game by the rules, urging that, ‘while we may share the marketplace, we need not share malice’, adding that it had nothing to do with Dangote’s current self-inflicted issues.

BUA REACTS TO SAHARA REPORTERS STORY, REVEALS BOGUS TAX CLAIMS BY FIRS AND COMPANY’S IMMEDIATE RESPONSE

The BUA Group has responded to an article published by Sahara Reporters today alleging that FIRS demanded a payment of 198.7Billion Naira being estimated tax for 2022.
According to the statement from the conglomerate, in the exchange of communication between BUA and FIRS, the company had denied the 1Trillion Naira as alleged by the tax body stating categorically that it’s books are available for all to see.
The company also revealed that it had reacted to the FIRS letter quoted in the article since the premise given for the humongous tax of 198.7Billion which was the alleged 1Trillion turnover never existed. Attaching both copies of the FIRS letter dated 19th September and their reply dated 25th September, the company wondered why those who leaked the FIRS letter forgot to leak its reaction if not for mischief.

Clarifying the alleged ultimatum, BUA also stated that it was rather a deadline to respond to inquiry rather than to make payment as alleged in the Sahara Reporters hatchet job article.
Going further BUA stated that as a responsible corporate entity, it is committed to fulfilling its statutory obligations to FIRS and other corporate bodies in Nigeria, and this includes payment of its tax as at when due, but the publication was indeed a gross misrepresentation of what transpired in tye exchanges between the organization and FIRS.

Oyo Govt. Unveils N1bn Loan Facility For Farmers

The Oyo State Government has provided N1Billion Loan Facility to the Oyo State Agricultural Credit corporation for farmers across the state.

The single digit interest loan facility would ensure more access at reasonable interest rates for farmers to expand their business and attract potential investors into the farming value chain.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation Film Theatre in Ibadan, recently, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Agricultural Credit corporation, Alh. Taofeek Akeugbagold said that the present administration was committed to reforming the farming sector with notable programmes like the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER), among others.

He said this will ensure food security and cushion the effect of removal of fuel subsidy, by the federal government.

He said the loan facility will focus on the small holder farmers, who bear the burden of feeding the teeming population.

"His Excellency, the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has graciously approved the release of One (1) Billion Naira under the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAFER) Programme which is to be disbursed to the Farmers in all the Thirty-three (33) Local Government Areas of the State so as to improve food security in the State", he said.

"They account for about Ninety Per cent (90%) of the Farmers population and this responsible for about Ninety-Five Per cent (95%) of the aggregate food and fibre production in the State", he said.

The Chairman pointed out that, "They are mostly residents of the State's rural areas who are poorly served by basic public amenities."

Akeugbagold said to access the loan, which will be disbursed and recouped by microfinance banks across the seven geopolitical zones in the state, each benefitting farmer must bring a guarantor, who is a civil servant on Grade level 7 and above.

He noted that the scheme would bring more stability to develop the agricultural sector and provide an enabling environment for the development of Oyo State farms and Agricultural Business.

Alh. Taofeek Akeugbagold said the loan process, which is apolitical, will be disbursed to farmers who are duly registered with the state Ministry of Agriculture.

In his remarks, the General Manager, Agric credit corporation, Mr. Emmanuel Ogundiran explained that, “The Oyo State government has recapitalized the corporation, we have received some funds and one of the mandates of the corporation is financing the agric value chain completely’’.

Ogundiran pointed out that, “The modality in giving out the loan is going to be exactly as enshrined in loan conditions of the Corporation. We have set rules for giving out loans and for this programme, we are making use of Microfinance Banks which are governed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, regulations and also regulated by the bank and financial institutions body’’.

He added, "The Corporation is funded by a system of revolving accounts which were built up over the years. Moreover, considering the realities of the present time accentuated by the removal of fuel subsidy, which has severally impoverished the peasantry, the loan support programme cannot have come at a better time.

He stated, "For ease of Administration, The Corporation has divided the entire State into Seven (7) Zones and intends to commence a sensitization campaign in all the aforementioned Zones very soon. The procedure for disbursement shall be unveiled at the subsequent Town-Hall meetings with the Farmers which will take place across the Seven (7) Zones which the State has been divided. "

On whether individuals farmers, who are not registered members of associations, could apply for the loan, the General Manager answered in the affirmative, stating:

“In fact, we do not intend to give loan to the association. We are giving individual farmers’’.

Adron Homes Raises Breast Cancer Awareness Among Women, Screen Staff

Every October is Breast Cancer Awareness and Research Month, a time when the world comes together to raise awareness and support the fight against this devastating disease. As the pink month rounds up, we at Adron Homes stand in solidarity with all those affected by breast cancer and encourage everyone to be intentional about everything that promotes women's wellness.

The event which is a brainchild of the Executive Director of Finance at Adron Homes, Olori Aderonke EmmanuelKing, the breast cancer awareness and examination program has become a yearly mainstay in Adron Homes' Pink Month schedule. Our staff from across the country are screened by experts who educate them on wellness and healthy living and conduct thorough examinations.

The event saw hundreds of women in our workforce get informed and screened to join the rest of the world in the global crusade against breast cancer to mark the pink month in partnership with PinkClinic Nigeria at our head office.

While sensitizing the participants, Dr Linda Keku of PinkClinic and a specialist in female reproductivity described cancer as a genetic abnormality that happens as result of the aging process and the wear and tear of life in general.

The doctor explained the risk factor for breast cancer as; obesity, diet, lack of physical activity; stress, radiation exposure, history of cancer, hormones and genetics. She advised the participants to pay more attention to their health by having a good health plan such as monthly self-examination, clinical breast examination and mammograms.

Breast cancer is a pressing global issue, with millions of new cases diagnosed each year. Early detection remains key to improving survival rates, as the chances of successful treatment are significantly higher when the disease is caught in its early stages. Regular self-examinations and mammograms can be life-saving tools, and we urge women to prioritize their health and well-being.

In 2023, breast cancer continues to impact lives around the world. Statistics reveal that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, underlining the urgency of ongoing research and awareness campaigns. However, there is hope in the form of advancements in treatment options and increased funding for research.

As we raise our collective voice for Breast Cancer Awareness, we also celebrate the strength and resilience of survivors, honour those we've lost, while working together towards a world where breast cancer is no longer a threat to women's health. Join us in this vital mission to support and empower women to take charge of their well-being, not just in October but every day of the year.

Breast cancer is a formidable adversary that has touched the lives of countless individuals and their families. It doesn't discriminate based on age, race, or socioeconomic status. That's why every October, we at Adron Homes recognize the significance of this month and dedicates resources to support the cause.

The numbers are sobering. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women globally, and it affects men as well, although less frequently.

One of the pillars of breast cancer prevention is early detection. Regular self-examinations are a simple yet effective way for women to monitor changes in their breast health. The earlier an anomaly is detected, the greater the chances of successful treatment. Mammograms, which are specialized X-ray exams for breast tissue, are another critical tool for early diagnosis, particularly for women over the age of 40.

Our commitment to the cause extends beyond awareness. This is why our annual breast cancer awareness and examination program is a central event in our calendar. It's not just about wearing pink; it's about taking concrete actions to make a difference.

Together, we can make a difference, one step at a time, one examination at a time, and one act of solidarity at a time.
